Rounded baluster shape, smooth wall relief on neck and foot, polychrome onglaze painting with gold decoration by Clara Wencke (1879- ?), marked below ''Handmalerei von S. C. Wencke Worpswede'' and faint unidentified mark in underglaze blue, h. 30,5 cm, min. rubbed, electrified, with fabric shade Ges.-.H. 45 cm.- The younger sister of Sophie Wencke (1874-1963) devoted herself to arts and crafts and painting glass and porcelain. In 1916-1919, both sisters stayed in the Bavarian porcelain town of Selb. During this time, Sophie Wencke worked on numerous designs for porcelain paintings with Worpswede motifs for the Hutschenreuther company. The sisters continued to maintain their joint studio in Worpswede even after Sophie Wencke's marriage in 1919.
