Klein, César. 1876 Hamburg - 1954 Lübeck. Untitled [figure]. Gouache/Velin, unsigned, on verso estate stamp with estate signature as well as the number 310 in folio, framed under passepartout behind glass 55 x 45 cm, passepartout cutout 28,5 x 22,8 cm, frame with name plaque, unopened. After stations at the Hamburg Kunstgewerbeschule and the Düsseldorf Kunstakademie, he took classes at the Berlner Kunstgewerbemuseum, where he later also taught, and from 1910 was a member of several avant-garde artist groups dedicated to Expressionism. Under the Nazi regime, he was banned from working and his work, which also included corporate scenography and decorative arts, was defamed as ''degenerate''.
