Wolters, Geo. 1866 - Hamburg - 1943. The motor ship ''Johannes Molkenbuhr'' in full sail. Between 1936-1939. gouache and colored chalk/paper, signedGeo Wolters lower right, 47.5 x 63.8 cm, minimal punctual defects of the painting surface, framed behind glass 51.5 x 68 cm, unopened.- The marine painter and graphic artist Wolters went to sea in World War I as a lieutenant and held the captain's license. The merchant ship of the Hugo Stinnes shipping company was launched in January 1936 in Flensburg. On September 5, 1939, it was laid up by HMS Southampton and her escorts: the German crew had initiated the self-sinking of the ship after recognizing the British units and was taken on board by the British. Subsequently, the British destroyer Jersey sank the ship.
