Marine painter of the 19th/20th c. Captain's picture of the barque ''George Washington''. Around 1900. gouache with watercolor, unsigned, u. inscribed George Washington Amsterdam Capt R. K. Visser, 52 x 63,5 cm, color losses at the u. edge, framed behind glass 58,5 x 70 cm.- The ship was built in Boston in 1860, sold in 1875 to the Bremen Siedenburg, Wendt & Co. who changed the rigging in 1888 and converted the ship to a barque. In 1892 she was sold to Amsterdam. Visser captained the ship from 1894-1900, and she was lost in 1902 en route from the Scottish Methil to Bremen.
