Witte, Johann Jacob. 1816 - Bremen - 1894. stormy sea with steam sailer under French flag. Oil/canvas, signed J J Witte lower right, 59 x 76 cm, framed 67 x 84 cm.- After receiving drawing lessons in Bremen, Witte went to Paris. There he became a student of the well-known French Romantic and Marian painter Eugène Isabey, whom he also accompanied on study trips. In the 1840s, Witte preferred to paint views of Helgoland and the coast of Schleswig-Holstein.
