Adam, Edouard. 1847 Brie-Comte-Robert - 1929 Le Havre. Attributed to. The four-masted full rigged ship ''H. Bischoff'' under full sail. Circa 1890. oil/canvas, unsigned, 62 x 92 cm, small hole, restored, framed 71 x 102 cm.- Built in Glasgow in 1865 as an iron steamer and three-masted full-rigged ship ''Ville de Paris'', the ship underwent conversion to a four-masted full-rigged ship in 1888 at Blyth in England. The H. Bischoff shipping company bought the ship, which sailed on the North Atlantic route as a passenger and merchant ship from 1890 under the name H. Bischoff. On October 28, 1900, the ship, loaded with saltpetre, got into distress during a heavy storm, stranded off the mouth of the Elbe on the Großer Vogelsand and broke up.12 men lost their lives during the rescue operation.
