Woods, Henry. 1846 Warrington - 1921 Venice. The Happy Family. 1868. oil/canvas, signed lower left a. dated Henry Woods 1868, titled on artist's name plaque, 55.5 x 75.5 cm, mounted, framed in magnificent frame with artist's name plaque 80.5 x 101 cm.- Woods is one of the main representatives of the Neo-Venetian School. After training at the South Kensington School of Art, Woods visited Venice, settled there permanently from 1878 and made a name for himself with motifs from Venetian folk life. He regularly mounted exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, of which he became a member. Paintings by him can be found in the Tate Gallery, among others.
