Kollmar, Alfred. 1886 Bietigheim - 1937 Worpswede. Faces. Oil/blanket, o. l. monogr. K, 49.5 x 40.5 cm, unframed.- The painter settled in Worpswede in 1919 after a nervous crisis and stays in a sanatorium. His radical, expressionist-bold painting style made him an outsider there. Tetjus Tügel, Bernhard Hoetger and Bram van Felde became his most important companions. Throughout his life, his paintings were not shown, not even in the Worpswede group exhibitions. In 1937 he took his own life. In 2007, a large exhibition of his work commemorated the forgotten Worpswede expressionist.
