Blue and white vase with crane decoration, China, 16th century, Ming dynasty (Jiajing 1522-1566). Heavy, crane-shaped body with cut/truncated neck. Cobalt blue painting in underglaze with flying cranes over lingzhi plants framed by rocky surf with stylized sea spray. Above leafy branches with peaches alternating with round cartouches with solitary characters of benedictory content floating on stylized cloud bands. The strong and high foot ring and the transition to the (shortened) neck each with a closed lotus vine border. Under the base a 6-character Jiajing mark in underglaze fragmented from an old bore (probably once mounted as a lamp). The base has some concentric fire cracks (stable), which merge into small fissures in two places, h. 27 cm.
